Bloggers’ Bites: Oh My Pie

Featres pt 2 (10 of 60) PIE CLOCK FIXED

Bloggers’ Bites is a series of posts chronicling the foodie adventures of Penn Appétit’s blog staff. In honor of our Spring 2014 pie issue, we asked our bloggers what their favorite pie flavor was. See you at our launch tonight!

Shira Hendler: I have a hard time choosing one pie flavor as my favorite, but definitely the pie that I have the most positive associations with is peanut butter pie. Growing up, my dad would always rave about the one peanut butter pie that he used to eat at a diner in Rochester, NY. So a few years ago, I decided to make one for him. I’m not sure if it was as good as the pie he remembers, but in my opinion, nothing can beat that rich, creamy, decadent, peanut-butter flavor. And even better, it’s a cinch to make – all you have to do is mix together four ingredients, pour them into a pie crust, and freeze.

Rachel Dinh: As much as I love a sweet blueberry or tart apple pie, I have to say my favorite pie is the Chicken Pot Pie. The best variety of this comfort food classic comes loaded with succulent chicken breast, fresh mixed vegetables, and creamy white sauce – all oven-baked to perfection. Take a fork to this treat’s flaky, golden crust for a savory pie that always hits the spot!

Nicole Woon: My insatiable sweet tooth turns down no pie. Yet of all the options out there, the quintessential all-American pie reigns supreme. Tart and toothsome chunks of apple, marinating in an aromatic mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. A golden brown crust, flaky and tender and buttery. The only thing making a slice of apple pie even more perfect? A heaping scoop of chilly ice cream melting on top of a warm slice.

Byrne Fahey: My favorite pie flavor is key lime. The filling is the perfect match of tangy and creamy, and who doesn’t love a graham cracker crust? Not to mention, lime rind is soothingly aromatic and gloriously vibrant in color. Weirdly enough, the best key lime pies in my hometown come from the fish store.

Emily Waxman: Although I have never been huge on pies, my preferred dessert always being chocolate cake, I must admit that I have a weak spot for pumpkin pie. It might be the perfectly creamy consistency of the filling and the subtly buttery taste of the crust, but I suspect it has more to do with when I eat it, during Thanksgiving that is. Surrounded by family and friends on my absolute favorite holiday of the year (the one centered around food obviously) I cannot help but associate the slightly sweet, nutty and spicy masterpiece with the people I miss most while at school, and for that pumpkin pie will always have a place in my heart.

Chloe Kaczvinsky: My favorite pie is a strawberry cream cheese pie my mother makes every summer. The creamy filling pairs perfectly with crisp summer strawberries. It’s light and cooling, perfect for hot July nights.

Farrel Levenson: As a total chocoholic who also loves puddings, my favorite flavor is definitely chocolate cream pie. The soft, fluffy chocolate and whipped cream topping,  paired with a buttery, flaky crust, make each bite luxurious and light. There’s a small bakery in my hometown that makes their pies from scratch every morning, and their chocolate cream pie is the best.
