Bloggers Review: McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams

Founded in Santa Barbara, California in 1949, McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams is an ice cream company with a mission to make delicious ice cream using high quality ingredients. The ice cream is sustainable and organic, and available at whole foods.

They have lots of cool flavors like Churros con Leche and Boysenberry Rose’ Milk Jam (which I am so curious about), but the ones we tried were Turkish Coffee and Salted Caramel Chip.

We found the Turkish Coffee flavor to be very coffee-forward, with a rich but refreshing mouthfeel and a slightly bitter aftertaste, just like a good cup of coffee. The ice cream was studded with flecks of coffee bean, which added nice textural contrast and extra coffee flavor. In a nutshell, if you are a fan of coffee you will enjoy this flavor!

The Salted Caramel Chip is also delicious. The saltiness is definitely pronounced, but it’s just enough to counterbalance the strong, deep caramel flavor that permeates the ice cream. The chips in question are small shards of Guittard bittersweet chocolate, and everyone knows that chocolate and caramel are best friends, so they are a welcome addition.

Make sure to check the freezer case for McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams next time you make a trek down to the South St. Whole Foods
