Cookie Magic: An Honest Review of Insomnia Cookies’ Membership Plan

Gooey, decadent, and offered in a variety of flavors, Insomnia Cookies are a college staple. Conveniently located right at Houston Hall and open until late, their cookies are a must-have for any late night studying or midnight snack. I personally love going to grab a cookie after studying with friends or if I’m craving something sweet. After finding myself frequenting Insomnia Cookies weekly, I decided to try out their membership plan called Cookie Magic this month, to see if it was worth the hype.

The Basics

The whole premise of Cookie Magic is that you pay a monthly subscription fee of $9.99 and you get to redeem a free cookie every day of that month. Other benefits include free local delivery at all Insomnia Cookies’ locations, 20% off nationwide shipping orders and other exclusive promotions and perks. While I’ve never taken advantage of these perks, they are definitely very convenient and worthwhile for students living off campus.

Once you purchase the membership, it is very easy to redeem your free cookie through the website: https://insomniacookies.com or app. On the side bar, click “Redeem your free cookie”, and it will take you to the page below.

There is a 5 minute timer where you can redeem that free cookie, so it’s best to start the timer once you’re in line. The timer screen will appear like this, and you show that to your cashier to redeem the cookie.

Now you can repeat this every day for a month!

The Verdict

Over the course of the month, I have tried most of the classic flavors offered by Insomnia, and I have to say, my top choice is still the double chocolate chunk. Especially when warm and with a cold classic of milk, the double chocolate chunk is the perfect amount of chocolatey and sweet.

I was most disappointed by the double chocolate mint; I am normally a big fan of mint chocolate flavored food, but this cookie was just too mint-y. The chocolate chunk and oatmeal raisin are also strong contenders!

There is no doubt that Insomnia cookies are delicious, but a cookie a day is just a little too much for me. I often felt wasteful not grabbing a cookie on my way out of Houston, even though more often than not, that cookie stayed in my fridge before being thrown out. So would I purchase this subscription again? Probably not. Would I recommend this to anyone who has a sweet tooth or would split the subscription with a friend? Definitely.

And for anyone interested in trying out the subscription, Insomnia currently offers a free first month trial using the code “SWEETMAGIC”.
