A Tomato Monologue
My true family tree has deserted me,
I am stuck with the carrots and celery.
I may be in salads, but not ones made of fruit,
Veggies took me while fruits gave me the boot.
Please remember me and my vitamin C,
I have a huge heart and versatility.
Why does every hostess have to pair me with cheese?
Please pair me with berries and put me at ease.
I do not mean to sound so needy,
I cannot help that I am so seedy.
From the heirloom to sun gold or grape,
I can take any kind of shape.
Vegetables have been my ultimate disguise,
But I am a tomato, a fruit— surprise!
