Eli Kulp, the acclaimed Philadelphia chef behind Fork, High Street on Market, and a.Kitchen, suffered serious spinal cord injuries in the Amtrak train derailment on May 12. Eli was reportedly headed home to his family after a day of work in Philidelphia and was seated in the second car of the train, in the first row.

His injuries are significant, according to a statement released by High Street Hospitality Group, and will require many months of rehabilitation. Plans are in the works for aggressive rehabilitation and supporters can help defray his medical expenses by donating to this GoFundMe page. All notes and letters can be sent to Fork Restaurant, 306 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Looking for other ways to support Chef Eli? Consider donating to his fundraiser planned for Thursday, July 16— the date Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter declared  “Eli Kulp Day” after he was declared one of Food and Wine Magazine’s Best New Chefs 2014.

Alternatively, show your support by going to eat at Fork, a.Kitchen, or High Street on Market. Good deeds have never tasted so good.

-On behalf of all of Penn Appétit, we wish Eli the all the best during his road to recovery and look forward to seeing him back in Philadelphia.
