CHOW NOW: Best (Bread) I Ever Had

I’ve chewed on bagels in New York, munched on baguettes in Paris, and eaten focaccia in Rome—but none of those come CLOSE to the bread I ate this past weekend in Philadelphia at High Street on Market.

Actually I had three kinds of bread, but the first piece I tried—the
Ancient Grains loaf—was by far the star of the night. It had a soft, spongy interior that was packed with a nutty flavor, yet its dark crust was satisfyingly crisp. The interior was thick, rich, and full of wonderfully spacious pockets of air—perfect for catching the house-made miso butter it was paired with. I won’t hesitate to say that when the two came together, something close to bread nirvana was achieved.

The other two loaves—the Anadama and Buckwheat Cherry—were delicious as well, and the savory bagna cauda and sweet pumpkin butter paired with them were equally outstanding. But from now on whenever I bite into a piece of bread, my mind will always return to that one heavenly piece of Ancient Grain.

So CHOW NOW at High Street on Market! The bread is to die for—and oh yeah, the main course was pretty delicious too.
