Dim Sum House Opening

Jackson Fuo and mother, Jane Guo of Dim Sum Garden and Jane G’s have expanded to University City. The sleek new restaurant recently opened on the second floor of 3939 Chestnut St. and offers a full bar and lounge that overlooks university city.

The restaurant offers a fusion of Shanghai and Cantonese dim sum. At their opening party, they offered samples of their dim sum, scallion pancakes, desserts, and cocktails.

The first thing I tried was their beef scallion pancake, which is beef sandwiched between two slices of scallion pancake. The scallion pancake is perfectly seasoned and crispy and the beef is very soft.

The four types of dim sum offered at the party were absolutely mouthwatering. The chicken dumplings and shrimp siu mai were filled with a large amount of meat and were shaped perfectly. If you want something spicy, try the spicy shrimp siu mai but make sure to have a glass of water! For vegetarians, the vegetable dumplings are a perfect substitute for the other meat-loaded dishes.

For dessert, I tried an egg tart and sesame ball. Both were very good but the egg tart was especially well made. Most egg tarts I’ve tried from other restaurants are dry but this one was soft and crumbly.

Dim Sum House also offers 10 special cocktails and a variety of traditional Chinese food such as Peking Duck and General Tso’s chicken.

As a self-proclaimed dim sum lover, I’ve tried dim sum from a variety of locations including Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing. I have to admit, Dim Sum House lives up to my expectations.
