Easter Candy: Tasted and Reviewed

Typically, Halloween is what first comes to mind when we think holiday candy- but, in my opinion Easter is by far the superior of the candy-driven holiday’s. Not only can you enjoy your year round favorites packaged in pretty pastels, but you can also indulge in the special Easter candies that are only available during this time of year. And really what better way to celebrate the end of lent (and the end of our spring break diets) than with a heaping helping of overly sweet treats? Without further ado, here is my list of go-to Easter candy:

Peeps:

Ok, so I may be in the minority with this one, but I’m not a huge fan of Peeps. They are 100% sugar, but lack a distinct flavor and the marshmallows taste pretty synthetic-I get the most enjoyment from blowing them up in the microwave. Nether the less, they are an Easter candy staple so expect to see them in your basket.

Lindt Chocolate Carrots:

Undeniably delicious and adorable. These are definitely the kind of carrots I would want to eat all year around. However, they do have a strong hazelnut flavor so if that’s not your thing then you might not be a fan of these chocolate treats.

Mini Cadbury Eggs:

British candy = better candy. These mini chocolate eggs have a unique crunchy sugar coating and are rightfully an Easter classic.

Jelly Beans:

These for me are the Easter candy I eat when they are there, but not something I’d buy for myself. However, if I have to choose I’d say the Starburst flavored ones are the most delicious of the ones available.

Coconut Nest:

WOW. I had never had these before and they are now my new favorite. These are with out a doubt the most underrated Easter candy of the ones I tried. If you like coconut macaroons you will love these.

Marshmallow Egg:

These are exactly like what you would expect. Fluffy marshmallow coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate – you cannot go wrong with these.

Reese’s Eggs:

In my opinion, these are the better of the “eggs.” The chocolate to peanut butter ratio is solid and this seasonal treat is bigger than the average Reese’s cup.

Chocolate Bunny:

When purchasing an iconic chocolate bunny for Easter make sure to go with a hollow one. The solid bunnies are great in theory, but they are way too dense and would probably send you into diabetic shock. Also, since these are purely chocolate splurge for good quality – Lindt or Ghirardelli.

Butterfinger Nest Eggs:

YUM. Eleven out of twelve months I am not a huge Butterfinger girl, but these tiny egg shaped ones are infinitely more delicious. They come in peanut butter and regular flavor and they are insanely addicting, so beware…

Cadbury Creme Egg:

I saved the best for last. Cadbury creme filled eggs are synonymous with Easter for many, mainly because you can literally only get these for a short period of time each year. The thick Cadbury chocolate is rich and sweet, but the most delicious part is the decedent creme center. They are now available with caramel and chocolate creme centers, but take it from me – original is best.
