The hugely successful Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival will return to Main Street, Manayunk on September 21, 2013. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, the district’s major thoroughfare will be lined with a whopping 40 food trucks and 17 gourmet food vendors in designated areas along the street. The festival will serve as the kick-off for Manayunk’s Restaurant Week beginning Sunday, September 22 and running until Friday, October 4.

These 40 food trucks will be ready to feed the masses, taking over ¾ miles along Main Street (running from Green Lane to Shurs Lane). The street will be open to traffic with trucks facing the sidewalk for pedestrian access. The Manayunk Development Corporation has taken steps to dissipate the overwhelming lines that occurred at the previous StrEAT Food Festival. There will be a barricaded waiting space between each set of two trucks. Therefore, those waiting in line to order will be able to step off of the sidewalk as well as those waiting to pick up their food order from the second truck in that area. The MDC encourages visitors to stroll the street with the alleviated hassle of pedestrian traffic.

The number of food trucks attending this year’s event has doubled since the first StrEAT Food Festival on September 29, 2012. “We could not be more excited about the amount of people who are coming to Manayunk to enjoy this festival,” says Jane Lipton, Executive Director, Manayunk Development Corporation. “Besides the gourmet food you can get at the food trucks, this event also celebrates more than 20 Manayunk restaurants who boast impressive menus as well.”

Twenty-three Manayunk restaurants will be offering an apple-themed specialty in-store during the event. “The theme for the event is apple because it is something different than the overwhelming ‘pumpkin craze’ of fall, while still offering an enjoyable autumn feel,” adds Lipton. “Challenging our restaurants and vendors to include apples into their menus is something that makes our event exciting and different from other food festivals people may have been to.”

Gourmet Food Courts with food vendors and seating areas will be set up in two Main Street parking lots. In these areas, visitors can shop from gourmet food vendors selling homemade spices, sweets, etc. along with vendors preparing their own food “hot off the grill” on-site. Live music will be playing at several locations throughout the day forming a perfect place to sit, eat, and enjoy the sound of local bands.

With its classic storefronts, beautiful trails, and towpath along the canal, Manayunk offers a prime location to take a break from the city and enjoy a Saturday outside tasting the best of what Philadelphia has to offer.

Manayunk Restaurant Week will run from Sunday, September 21 to Friday, October 4. Participating restaurants will create 3 course prix-fixe meals for either $10, $20, or $30. For more information, visit our website here.
