Schmear It: A Bagel Food Truck with a Social Conscience
Philadelphia’s first and only food truck serving bagels and social impact is set to launch in August. Named for its build-your-own “schmear” concept, Schmear It will feature custom-crafted bagel sandwiches, fresh coffee, and local causes.
Schmear It will be sourcing its bagels daily from Philadelphia’s renowned South St. Philly Bagels. Customers will be able to create their own spreads to match their taste, creativity, and dietary interests. Starting with the selection of a base spread, such as cream cheese, peanut butter, specialty flavored vegan tofu and nut spread, tuna salad, or egg salad, customers will then add ingredients to create their dream “schmear.” One customer might mix low-fat cream cheese, mango, and Sriracha while another mixes peanut butter, Nutella, and bananas. In addition to the build-your-own offering, Schmear It’s menu will feature signature sandwiches for tried-and-true, tasty creations, such as:
The Stuffed French Toast Bagel: Cream cheese, strawberries, bananas, maple syrup, and walnuts on a french toast bagel
The Philly Roll Bagel: Cream cheese, chopped lox, wasabi, cucumber, and a splash of soy sauce on an everything bagel
La Colombe coffee will complement the bagels and schmear.
Each order will also be served with a side of social good. Putting its “Spread some good!” slogan into action, Schmear It will feature a local cause each week. A portion of that week’s sales will be donated to the nonprofit organization, and the truck will be, quite literally, a marketing vehicle, displaying information about the cause – its mission, local impact, and ways to get involved – with additional content featured on its website and social media pages. Schmear It aims to empower customers as local “do-gooders” without any additional cost or effort.
The truck build and exterior design are in their very final stages (photos of the step-by-step progress can be found on its website and facebook page). Schmear It will be ready to hit the streets in mid August, beginning service at LOVE Park and 33rd and Arch, with more locations to come.
