Snow Day Treats

Snow on the ground, cuddling under the blankets inside… only one thing missing: hot chocolate! But just any old hot chocolate will not suffice. I love Mexican hot chocolate: in particular, Abuelita. It’s pretty simple to make and it tastes homemade, unlike that powdery-nonsense. You can easily buy it in the grocery store in the Ethnic foods aisle.

Just pour 3-4 cups of milk (almond, soy, hemp, rice, or dairy will all do, but I prefer almond for this recipe) into a small pot. Put that on medium heat while you insert the tablet of chocolate. Stir as it foams up. Add spices to your liking (I added Mexican cayenne and coconut sugar). Pour it in a glass mug and top with whipped cream and a cut strawberry. I personally guarantee warm fuzzy feelings. For bonus points, add liqueur such as amaretto.

P.S. Thank you Lesley Flores for the hot chocolate!
