Foodie Fun Facts: Even Cakes Are Superstitious

My birthday is coming up soon, and as such, I decided to write up some fun facts about cake! And believe me, what I found was pretty interesting.

While researching, I came across a bit of information I didn’t even know people took seriously. Apparently, superstitions extend all the way to cake. According to some people, if a cake falls while baking, it signifies bad luck for the baker in the upcoming year.

Also, bakers used to put in coins and rings into  cake batter. Whoever received the slice with the coin would obtain riches in the near future, and whoever received the slice with the ring would get married in the near future.

My question is, what happens if you bake a cake with a coin or a ring and it falls while in the oven? It’s always the little things that make me oh so curious…
