Truck Treks: Marrakesh Express

It’s the truck I always pass and always tell myself to go to, but I finally had cash in my hands, a craving for shawarma, and a deadline for my regular post that got me sprinting over.

I asked the chef what he recommended.  He had a very slow reaction time, and eventually told me, “I don’t really know.” This didn’t make my decision any easier, but I figured I’d go with the original chicken shawarma.

I’d rate the shawarma a 6~7 out of 10.  It’s not that it didn’t taste good, but it wasn’t the traditional shawarma I was looking for. While the wrap itself is made out of pita bread, it didn’t have the thickness I was expecting, and the filling was a lot more wet, and I wanted something with less sauce.

The pickles and vegetables were good texture-adding elements, plus  this hardy meal was just $5 ($6 for other proteins, $4 for falafel).  It’s definitely worth a try.  Marrakesh Express is also one of few food trucks in University City that is open on Saturdays.
