DiBruno’s House of Cheese

This past Tuesday, December 3, we went to a book signing for the new book DiBruno Bros. House of Cheese.  Held in the beautifully decorated basement of Anthropologie, the book signing featured cheese samples from DiBruno Brothers, glasses of crisp wine, and conversation with author Tenaya Darlington and DiBruno’s cheesmonger Emilio Mignucci.  Just like Santa Clause, the pair stood on top of a wintry wonderland of a stage, greeting enthusiastic guests and signing books.  The book makes for the perfect gift for any cheese aficionado (and if you haven’t guessed by now, Penn Appétit is all about the cheese). The book is full of all the dirty details on a wide array of cheese, ranging from your everyday cheddar to more eclectic varieties, like dessert cheeses.  With its snappy cheese metaphors (munster is “a member of the Addams Family, milky and macabre”) and witty advice (“How to Pick a Hunk”), the book is a fun read, and it contains a large number of recipes and cheese plate pairing and plating suggestions.  All that, plus the author Tenaya Darlington is a total sweetheart. Paired with the contributions from DiBruno’s cheesemonger Emilio Mignucci (check out our interview with him in fall 2013 issue), and we’re talking dream team. We had a great time, and we got to sample some tasty cheeses along the way!

These tastes are just a small bite (pun intended) of the unique flavor suggestions the book includes. So go ahead, send along a little gift suggestion to Mom and Dad. Or, just buy one for yourself. Either way, this book is a sure keeper–you’re bound to find the hunk of your dreams!
