Ice Cream Heaven in the Form of Ample Hills Creamery

Calling all ice cream fanatics: I have found our heaven. It an ice cream store full of people  understand the needs and wants of ice creamer lovers like you, so they are able to create the perfect ice cream. This heaven is called Ample Hills Creamery.

This ice cream parlor was founded in Brooklyn and has recently opened a few locations in Manhattan. They make their ice cream from scratch — This means they even pasteurize their own ice cream base so that we can create uniquely specific flavors like pretzel-infused ice cream (the base used for The Munchies flavor). This actually makes them a registered dairy plant. So, yes, this place is the real deal.

What is so special about Ample Hills you might ask… It’s their creative flavors. They are doing some revolutionary stuff over there. When they title a flavor as The Munchies, for example, it’s because it really is filled with the munchies. It is pretzel infused ice cream with chunks of Ritzs crackers, potato chips, pretzels and m&ms. When they make a cake flavor, it’s ooey gooey butter cake flavored and you can find chunks of their homemade ooey gooey butter cake swirled in.
I have become such an addict that every time I make my way to an Ample Hills store, I buy some pints to take home with me.

I haven’t tried every flavor, especially since they add flavors seasonally and for limited time, but of the ones I have tried, here are my favorites that you definitely need to get your spoons in:

Sweet As Honey:
This is a luscious cream base with homemade honeycomb candy mixed in and swirls of honey. This was the first flavor I fell in love with at Ample Hills. It took me to another world. It is simple yet intense and it gets sweeter with every bite.

Salted Crack Caramel:
This is one of their most popular flavors and for good reason. It’s a salted butter caramel ice cream with what they call “Crack Cookies.” These are saltine crackers coated with butter, sugar and chocolate. This flavor does not fail to live up to its title as seen through its addictive nature.

Peppermint Pattie:
This flavor is refreshing in contrast to the other flavors which are very sweet. It’s a peppermint base with homemade peppermint patties (classic Ample Hills to make their own York candy) mixed in. If you’re a fan of peppermint ice cream like me, you’ll love this.

Snap Mallow Pop:
They call this flavor “a deconstructed rice krispie treat.” It is made with marshmallow flavored ice cream combined with rice krispie clusters. The special thing about Ample Hills is that when they say “marshmallow ice cream,” it really does taste like marshmallows and not the generic vanilla flavor you would expect. The crunch of the rice krispie bites is perfect in this flavor.

If these flavors haven’t convinced you already, let me reiterate: You MUST try Ample Hills Creamery ice cream. If you can’t make it to one of their stores in Manhattan or Brooklyn, you may be able to find some pints in your local grocery store in the Manhattan area or order online (they ship nationwide)!
