“Donut” Miss This: Federal Donuts University City
Move over, Dunkin’: Federal Donuts has landed in University City.
The team behind the fried-chicken-and-donut hotspot opens the doors to FedNut’s third outpost this Monday, March 10, at 3428 Sansom Street, so get ready to grab a stool, munch on some donuts and fried chicken, and jam to the eclectic, soda-shop inspired music (we’ve even heard that the staff might break out into dance!).
Past towering racks filled with trays of donuts, the kitchen is where all the magic happens.
Frying up savories and sweets.
Take a gander at the menu before ordering at the counter. FedNuts has the same core menu of donuts–hot and fancy–and chicken at all its locations, but the flavors change depending on the branch.
Served piping hot from the fryer, sugar-dusted cake donuts wow the crowd: Orange Dream (a.k.a. Orange Creamsicle–the name’s still up for debate!), Cinnamon Brown Sugar, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Be sure to grab a few extra napkins for these melt-in-your-mouth, sticky delights, especially for the crowd favorite chocolate peanut butter.
Chocolate Covered Strawberry–send them to a loved one instead of actual strawberries. They’ll love the donuts (and you) more.
Marshmallow^2. Burnt and perfectly reminiscent of summers spent smoking marshmallows in the fire.
The chicken menu is broken into dry and glazed. New dry seasonings here include Furikake (toasted sesame seeds, bonito flake, nori), Moussa (parsley, onion, saffron, coriander, cumin, sumac), and Buffalo Ranch; on the glaze side, FedNuts is cranking out flavors like Pad Thai (lime, roasted chili, crushed peanuts) and Sweet Soy Garlic (sweet soy, roasted garlic and sherry). Rumor has it that the classic chili-garlic glaze will also be available as a secret menu item.
The shop opens with donuts and coffee at 7 am, while chicken goes up for sale at 11am. And they’ll stay open until 7pm or until everything sells out.
