Tara Nurin Wins 2012 Epikur Writer of the Year

Philadelphia, PA, Feb. 21, 2013

Epikur Magazine is proud to announce Tara Nurin as the 2012 Epikur Writer of the Year. The prize was created to honor the best culinary writing in and around Philadelphia. After six months of voting, polls closed this this week. In the end, over 20,000 readers voted for their favorite local writers. A huge success for the writers and Philadelphia, this was the very first of what is expected to become an annual contest.
Writer of the Year 2012, Tara Nurin is one of the most accomplished writers in the Philadelphia metropolis. An Emmy nominee and former TV reporter, Tara manages to bridge the gap between traditional journalism and modern food writing. She is also one of the most prolific professional writers in Philly. She is currently a features writer for Foobooz, a beer reviewer for Drink Philly, and a correspondent for WHYY. She has also written for Philadelphia Magazine, Ale Street News, and the Courier-Post, among others.
During the contest, Tara proved to be a readers’ favorite, as well. Thousand of readers cast their “Writer of the Year” vote for her. It was a close call, though. The final vote tally saw 22,030 votes dispersed between twenty of the city’s top writers. In the end, the top six writers in Philadelphia are Tara Nurin (first place), Kaitlin Lunny (second place), Michael Savett (third place), Kate Marlys (fourth place), Alexis Siemons (fifth place), and Melissa Ward (sixth place).
As Writer of the Year, Tara receives a cache of prizes, including a case of luxury wines from Bacchus Selections, a seat in the Wine School of Philadelphia’s Professional CORE Program, and a significant cash prize as well.
