CELEBRATE NATIONAL EMPANADA DAY ON MONDAY, APRIL 8
AND ALL MONTH LONG AT CUBA LIBRE WITH MENU ADDITIONS

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Throughout April, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar (10 South 2nd Street, 215-627-0666) will celebrate National Empanada Day with special sampler platters of the half-moon-shaped pastries that are a staple of Cuban cuisine. In addition to the ongoing menu additions, which will feature a variety of new and beloved empanadas, on Monday, April 8 during Caippy Hour, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., the restaurant will feature a selection of Chef Guillermo Pernot’s famed empanadas for just $1 each, including a crowd-sourced Fan Favorite.

“Empanadas are endlessly versatile, and our National Empanada Day offerings are a celebration of all of the different iterations of this crave-able snack,” says Chef Pernot. “From time-honored classics to brand new interpretations, from savory to sweet, we have an empanada for everyone.”

Throughout April, guests are invited to mix and match a variety of empanadas for the restaurant’s sampler platters: during Lunch, two empanadas for $13 or three for $17, served with a baby spinach salad and tomatillo relish; during Dinner, $5.50 each to sample one or several, either as a complement to a full meal or as a meal in and of themselves. Sampler empanadas will include favorites from the Cuba Libre menu such as: Hand-Chopped Chicken with corn and Jack cheese; Ground Beef with olives and raisins; Vegetarian Chorizo with black beans and ripened plantains; Pulled Pork with roasted poblano and charred tomatoes; and two to three chef-prepared creations, including a Fan Favorite determined by voting on Facebook and Twitter prior to April 1.

New featured empanadas will include: Slow Braised Turkey, with sweet peppers, onions, and balsamic reduction ($6); Berry, with raspberry, goat cheese and almond ($6.50); and Arroz con Leche Brulee with chocolate ganache empanaditas ($8).

For the Fan Favorite empanada, Chef Pernot has developed three recipes based on Facebook and Twitter suggestions. Through Friday, March 22, guests are invited to vote via Facebook for their favorite. The recipe earning the highest number of votes will be featured on the restaurant’s menu throughout April, including a place among the $1 offerings on National Empanada Day.
