JOe Coffee Opens on Rittenhouse Square

JOE Coffee on Rittenhouse Square opens today! It’s the first Joe location outside of NYC. Information from the press release is below:

“Joe, the New York City-based artisanal coffee purveyor, will open its first-ever Philadelphia location on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 on Rittenhouse Square (1845 Walnut Street). This is also Joe’s first location outside of New York City.

“We always knew that if we took Joe outside of New York City, we wanted to come to Philadelphia. When the opportunity to open overlooking Rittenhouse Square presented itself, we jumped at it; it’s a perfect fit for Joe,” says Jonathan Rubinstein, co-founder and proprietor of Joe Coffee.

The cafe will offer drip coffee and espresso beverages using a selection of their own Joe beans (roasted in New York City), and Intelligentsia Black Cat beans for espresso. Baristas will prepare espresso beverages on a La Marzocco Strada, one of the highest-grade machines from the iconic Italian brand. Joe Coffee will serve tea and a range of baked goods, including selections from Philadelphia’s Brûlée Bakery and custom Joe treats from Brooklyn’s Ovenly. In addition to serving food and beverages, Joe Coffee will sell a range of coffee merchandise, including their own book Joe: The Coffee Book, and offer coffee classes and free cuppings.

Located on the northern side of Rittenhouse Square, Joe will have 27 indoor seats, 12 outdoor seats, and 20 seats in the lobby of 1845 Walnut Street. The interior was designed by Street Sense Architects and features reclaimed wood counters and a rotating showcase of photography from local artists. Seating options include a farmhouse table, café tables, and a standing espresso bar. Amy Hattemer, four-year veteran of Joe Coffee in New York City, has relocated to become Director of Joe Philadelphia. “Since I moved here in January, I’ve been blown away by the food and beverage scene in Philadelphia. I’m excited that Joe Coffee is joining that world,” says Hattemer.

In addition to the Rittenhouse Square location, Joe will open in University City later in 2013.
