Proudly Introducing Our 12th Magazine Issue!

Issue 12

The team here at Penn Appétit are proud to announce the launch of our 12th magazine issue! Our launch party last week was a roaring success, and we’d like to send a HUGE thank you to all the magazine contributors and restaurants that participated.

Since our latest issue is meat-themed, we had to have some carnivorous dishes, right? Cappuccio’s Meats (1019 S. 9th Street) introduced guests to six different flavors of homemade all-pork italian sausages. We dug into hot Italian with fennel, mild Italian with fennel, broccoli rabe with imported sharp provolone, spinach with provolone, Sicilian with wine, and tomato basil.

Capital Grille (1338 Chestnut Street) served their signature sirloin crostini; the tender, substantial slices of steak were complemented by sweet caramelized onions, a tangy touch of bleu cheese, and crisp toasts.

Delicias, our beloved Venezuelan food truck on campus (40th and Locust; also locations at 36th and Market and Love Park), brought some Latin flair with a few different arepas: La Combinada (black beans, sweet plantains, and cotija cheese), Reina Pepiada (shredded chicken salad tossed in guacamole), and Chorizo (pork sausage and pico de gallo).

Vegan hotspot Hip City Veg (127 S. 18th Street) brought us “meat” (but not actually) with Philly steak wraps, fajita wraps, and crispy HipCity ranch wraps.

Philadelphia mainstay Continental Midtown ensured we had a balanced diet with their Black Quinoa ‘Tabbouleh’ Salad, containing quinoa, chopped spinach, feta, tomato, and olives tossed in a refreshing lemon vinaigrette.

In addition, Koch’s Deli (4309 Locust Street) treated us all to substantial corned beef, beef pastrami, and turkey sandwiches and our sweet tooths were satisfied by decadent desserts (Nutella cookies, anyone?) prepared by the Penn Appétit staff.

We didn’t scrimp on giveaways either. Capital Grille raffled off an impressive gift basket (think wine, steak knives, and gift cards). Square 1692 (121 S 17th Street) treated lucky winners to gift cards, and the Igloo (2223 Grays Ferry), a new frozen yogurt spot on South Street, generously provided coupons for their creamy Greek yogurt-based froyo to all.

Make sure to view our latest issue on Issuu or pick up a copy in Kelly Writer’s House or at our PubCo racks (located in 1920 Commons, Houston Hall’s dining areas [upstairs by Pari Cafe Creperie and downstairs in between the sushi kiosk and Einstein Bros Bagels], Van Pelt Library, and Williams Hall)!
