Joe Coffee, the New York City-based coffee roaster and retailer, is opening its second Philadelphia location in University City (3200 Chestnut Street, between 32nd and 33rd Streets) on September 23, 2013. Joe opened its first location outside of New York City on Rittenhouse Square in April, 2013.

“We’ve loved serving university communities in New York, like New York University, The School of Visual Arts, and Columbia University. We’re looking forward to building the same sense of community at Drexel and UPenn here in Philadelphia,” says Joe co-founder Jonathan Rubinstein.

Joe will serve a selection of its own Joe beans, roasted in Brooklyn, New York, at the Pulley Collective facility. This includes a house espresso, a house blend, and four single origins, as well as limited edition roasts. The new Joe will also serve pastries and a small selection of breakfast and lunch foods, such as soups, salads, and sandwiches, provided by Talula’s Daily.

Located on Chestnut Street between 32nd and 33rd Streets, Joe is opening on the ground floor of the new Chestnut Square building. The space was designed by Streetsense and features industrial elements such as cement, steel, and reclaimed wood. Joe will seat approximately 30 and offer free wifi. An express cart will serve drip and iced coffee to on-the-go commuters and students year-round.

The Chestnut Square location will be run by General Manager Ben Heller, a two-year veteran of Joe’s Columbia University café. Other vendors in the Chestnut Square building include Shake Shack and Yogorino.
